Straight from july 11, 1994 issue of 'Infoworld' - a weekly
magazine/newspaper mainly for the MIS/IS departments. From the column of
Robert X. Cringley who reports bugs, mistakes and all the bad things about
computers (who's accuracy rate is about 95%)... and I quote:
"...It's also the availability of fast processors that has led to such
low bids for bankrupt Commodore. The trustees last month rejected a
reported Samsung offfer of $1.5 million for the whole darned company!
"But the lowball offer makes some sense. All the Amiga custom chips are
still maazing, but as CPUs themselves get faster, the value of these chips
diminishes. Any bidder (there are six, and the bids must be in by July
15) would be interested in continuing sales in Europe and getting
royalties from NewTek, the Video Toaster folks, but an Amiga renaissance
is unlikely.
In case you're not picking up your jaw from the ground yet, that is $1.5
MILLION. The first sentence of the quote continued from the fact that
Cringley stated earlier in the column that 100-Mhz i486 had no difference
in performance as a 60- Mhz Pentuim chips in the 'Infoworld' test centers.
So much for those Raptors fans... Get your bids in now 8-)
